Steve Najjar, Executive Vice President - Senior Markets and General Counsel, joined HLR America in March 2009.
Most recently, Steve served as the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of Universal American Corp.'s insurance subsidiaries, as well as the Chief Compliance Officer of Universal American Corp. and its affiliates. During his tenure, Universal American's revenues grew from less than $1 billion to in excess of $5 billion resulting in unprecedented net income.
Prior serving for Universal American Corp., Steve occupied various executive positions with affiliates of the Hannover Re Group, including serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of Clarendon Insurance Group Inc., and he spent six years with Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America in executive positions including General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Hannover Life Re, Steve practiced law in Atlanta, Georgia with Morris, Manning and Martin.
Steve is a Regent’s Scholar from Georgia State University College of Law with a Journalism undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. He is a former law clerk to Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Sears Ward.
At HLR America, Steve is responsible for the overall leadership of our Senior Markets business unit, legal and regulatory affairs of the Company and its affiliates as well as the integration of our U.S. offices.

Julian A. Whitekus, FSA, MAAA, Vice President - Accident and Health, joined HLR America in May 2000, having started in the insurance industry in 1984.
Prior to joining HLR America, Julian worked as an actuarial associate with John Alden Life Insurance Company where he gained 15 years of experience in actuarial pricing and product development.
Julian earned his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of South Florida and his master’s degree in applied statistics from the University of Florida. He has been a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) since 2002 and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) since 1987.
At HLR America, Julian is responsible for developing and managing the company’s accident and health products.
Special Risk

David Nussbaum, FSA, MAAA, Vice President - Group Life and Special Risk, joined HLR America in January 2000. David has 32 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry.
Prior to joining HLR America, he was Vice President at Swiss Re Life, where he ran the Group Life and Special Risk Departments. He was responsible for the profit center including marketing, underwriting, actuarial, and administration. David also worked at Guardian Life and Home Life.
David currently serves as a member of the Reinsurance Council for the Society of Actuaries. He has been a speaker at the Society of Actuaries, Group Underwriters Association of America, Actuarial Club of New York, and other industry meetings. He has also published articles in Best’s Review and National Underwriter. Within Hannover, David has been a speaker and presenter at International client meetings in six countries.
David holds a Master of Science degree from New York University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
At HLR America, David is responsible for all aspects of Group Life and Special Risk products.

Miriam Kaufman, FLMI, HIA, Director of Marketing – Group Life and Special Risk, joined HLR America in January 2000, with 23 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry.
Prior to joining HLR America, Miriam was with Swiss Re Life where she was responsible for all group reinsurance treaties as well as Group Life marketing. Miriam also worked at National Benefit Life Insurance Company.
Miriam is a member of the reinsurance committee of the Group Underwriters Association of America (GUAA) where she is involved with the planning of the annual meeting. Within Hannover, Miriam has been a speaker and presenter at international client meetings.
Miriam holds a bachelor’s of arts degree from Queens College, City of University of New York. Miriam is a Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and a Health Insurance Associate (HIA).
At HLR America, Miriam is responsible for New York marketing and treaties. Miriam also assists in underwriting several health products.
