Peter R. Schaefer, FSA, MAAA, President and CEO, joined HLR America on January 1, 1999 as Chief Actuary and assumed his current responsibilities two years later.
Prior to joining HLR America, he was Vice President and Actuary with The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company where he had responsibility for product pricing, reinsurance and experience analysis.
Peter graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 1982 with a B.S. in Economics. He is an active participant in numerous actuarial and life insurance industry committees and currently serves on the Board of Directors of LL Global, Inc., the American Council of Life Insurers’ Board of Directors and Forum 500 Board of Governors. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Jeff Burt, FSA, MAAA, Executive Vice President - Financial Solutions, joined HLR America in 2003 as Vice President - Marketing where he had primary responsibilities for client relationships in traditional life reinsurance with a focus on portfolio reinsurance. During the course of his career at HLR America, he has developed the firm's financial reinsurance platform to include a wide range of structured reinsurance solutions covering block acquisitions, capital relief, embedded value securitizations, and redundant reserve relief.
In 2009, following the acquisition of the ING portfolio Jeff assumed responsibility for the Financial Solutions business unit which provides capital oriented solutions across the company's entire risk portfolio including, term and permanent life, annuities, senior health and special risk business.
Prior to joining HLR America, he held various positions at Penn Mutual Life Insurance focusing on pricing and product development of individual life insurance and annuities including illustrations, competitive analysis and reinsurance.
Jeff is a member of the Company's Operational Council. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Steve Najjar, Executive Vice President - Senior Markets and General Counsel, joined HLR America in March 2009.
Most recently, Steve served as the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of Universal American Corp.'s insurance subsidiaries, as well as the Chief Compliance Officer of Universal American Corp. and its affiliates. During his tenure, Universal American's revenues grew from less than $1 billion to in excess of $5 billion resulting in unprecedented net income.
Prior serving for Universal American Corp., Steve occupied various executive positions with affiliates of the Hannover Re Group, including serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of Clarendon Insurance Group Inc., and he spent six years with Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America in executive positions including General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining HLR America, Steve practiced law in Atlanta, Georgia with Morris, Manning and Martin.
Steve is a Regent’s Scholar from Georgia State University College of Law with a Journalism undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. He is a former law clerk to Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Sears Ward.
At HLR America, Steve is responsible for the overall leadership of our Senior Markets business unit, legal and regulatory affairs of the Company and its affiliates as well as the integration of our U.S. offices.

Chris Shanahan, FSA, MAAA, Executive Vice President - Mortality Solutions, joined HLR America in February of 2009. Chris has overall responsibility for HLR America’s traditional mortality risk business including business development, operations, and financial reporting.
Immediately prior to joining HLR America, Chris served as Interim President & CEO of Scottish Re US. Previously, Chris has held Senior Officer positions in pricing, product development, research, and business development with Lincoln Re, ING Re, and Scottish Re.
Chris has a degree in actuarial science from Drake University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

David A. Wheat, CPA, FLMI, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, joined HLR America in March of 2010. David has over 25 years in the insurance industry.
Prior to joining HLR America, David served as the Chief Financial Officer of ING Americas, leading finance and risk activities across the United States, Canada and Latin America. Prior to joining ING Americas, David was a partner in the Ernst & Young Insurance Practice.
David is a certified public accountant (CPA) and a graduate of the University of Louisville. He is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).
At HLR America, David is responsible for the Finance, Corporate Actuarial, Treasury, Risk Management, and Controller functions.

Curt R. Hagelman, Senior Vice President - Chief Marketing Officer, has been in the reinsurance industry since 1978. He joined HLR America in March 2001.
Curt has worked in Life and Health underwriting, actuarial and marketing fields, both domestically and internationally with European reinsurers Frankona Re and Gerling Global Re. He has also been involved as an officer focusing on marketing operations at a direct life insurance company subsidiary of Aachen Re, later serving as President of an Aachen Re US reinsurance subsidiary. From 1997 until joining HLR America, he was President of Sterling Holdings (Sterling Investors Life insurance Company).
At HLR America, Curt is responsible for the oversight of corporate strategic marketing planning and coordination of new business development with the HLR America business units.

Marla C. Lauterette, SPHR, Vice President - Human Resources, joined HLR America in 2003. Involved in Hannover’s strategy development, Marla aligns human assets with the company’s overall strategic vision. In addition, she focuses on insurance and legal issues, benefits administration, staff training, recruitment, leadership development, diversity training and employee career pathing.
Marla has more than 16 years of experience in human resource management with high technology and global firms. Prior to joining HLR America, she was a human resource consultant and worked as a human resource manager with Productivity Solutions, Inc. in Jacksonville. She is also well-versed in acquisitions and mergers, having started her own company and worked for two start-ups – both of which were acquired by large entities.

Jay Biehl, FSA, MAAA, Senior Vice President - Pricing, joined HLR America in February 2009. Jay has over 20 years in the reinsurance industry, most recently as Senior Vice President, Research & Analysis with Scottish Re. Prior to joining Scottish Re he was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Tower Bank and Trust Company. Formerly, Jay served as Chief Pricing Officer for ING Re following 18 years with Lincoln National, primarily with Lincoln Re where he served in a variety of roles including Chief Pricing Actuary and Head of Research and Development.
Jay holds a bachelor’s of science degree in actuarial science and computer science from Ball State University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
At HLR America, Jay is responsible for pricing and research for the Mortality Solutions Group.

Andy Creighton, FSA, MAAA, Senior Vice President - Mortality Solutions, joined HLR America in April of 2013. Andy has responsibility for Inforce Management, Treaties, and Quality Assurance & Compliance for HLR America’s traditional mortality risk business.
Andy’s career spans 30 years in insurance and reinsurance roles. Immediately prior to joining HLR America, Andy served as Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Scottish Re US. Previously, he held positions with Swiss Re, Lincoln Re, and Ernst & Young.
Andy has a BA in mathematics from Coe College and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Glen E. Martin, CPA, Senior Vice President and Treasurer, joined HLR America in 1995 as Assistant Vice President and was promoted to Vice President in 2001.
He has more than 16 years experience working with the insurance industry including public accounting. Prior to joining HLR America, Glen worked for six years at KPMG where his clients included multi-national insurance companies. His primary area of concentration has been financial services, specializing in life insurance.
Glen graduated cum laude from Stetson University, FL, with a bachelor’s of business administration in accounting. He received his Master’s in Accounting from the Stetson University. He is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
His responsibilities include leading Finance and Investments functions within the enterprise.

Robert Meehan, FIA, Senior Vice President, Financial Solutions, joined HLR America in April 2010. Prior to his current role, Rob served as Vice President – Pricing for the Financial Solutions team.
Rob has occupied various positions with affiliates of the Hannover Re Group. Rob served as Chief Actuary of Hannover Life Reassurance Bermuda Ltd. Prior to that role, Rob served as Marketing Actuary for both HLR America and Hannover Life Re Ireland Ltd. (merged to Hannover Re (Ireland) Plc in 2012). Before joining the Hannover Re Group, Rob served as an Actuarial Trainee with Eagle Star Life Assurance Company in Dublin, Ireland.
Rob is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA), and a graduate of the University College Dublin, Ireland.
At HLR America, Rob is responsible for creating new financial solutions for HLR America's clients.

Kevin Oldani, Senior Vice President - Chief Underwriter, joined HLR America in April 2009. Kevin Oldani has over 27 years of underwriting experience.
His past experience includes management of ING Re’s underwriting department, training and mentoring on underwriting issues, conducting client visits/audits, managing client relationships, and underwriting management of the COLI/BOLI line of business. Most recently, Kevin was Vice President of Underwriting for Scottish Re. Kevin’s career also includes the management of new business and underwriting at a large brokerage insurance company.
Kevin is a member of AHOU and the Rocky Mountain Society of Home Office Underwriters. Kevin is past president of The Southeastern Underwriters Association, past Chairman of the COLI Directors meeting and is on the Executive Committee for the Impaired Risk Underwriting Association.
At HLR America, Kevin is responsible for the overall management of the underwriting department.

Joseph A. Sikora, CFA, FSA, MAAA, Senior Vice President – Insurance Risk Management and Appointed Actuary, has 35 years of actuarial and insurance management experience with both stock and mutual insurance organizations as well as in consulting.
He has successes in acquisitions, mergers and divestitures of operations as well as a strong background in tax and regulatory issues.
Joe is also a semi-professional clarinetist in the Orlando Concert Band and has successfully applied his degree in Physics to reinsurance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
At HLR America, he has an oversight role of new business pricing and financial management in addition to risk analysis and overall valuation responsibility as the company's Appointed Actuary.

Lisa K. Smith, CLU, Senior Vice President – Operations, joined HLR America in February 2009 with over 25 years of industry experience. She also serves as HLR America’s Denver Site Manager.
Lisa began her career with ING Security Life of Denver. She advanced within ING holding various positions in its retail and reinsurance businesses including Executive Director of strategic planning and organizational development and Vice President – Business Operations. Prior to joining HLR America, Lisa worked for Scottish Re as Senior Vice President – Business Operations for four years where she also led several systems integration efforts.
Lisa holds a bachelor’s of science degree in economics from Bates College.
At HLR America, Lisa is responsible for Assumed and Retrocession Administration, Claims, Client Data Management, Business Project Support, and Treaty Compliance Audit with 90 employees in Denver, Charlotte and Orlando.

Paul J. Smith, FLMI, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, joined HLR America in August 1997 with 15 years of systems experience.
Paul began his reinsurance career in 1985 as a programmer with Hudson Life Reassurance Corporation in Sarasota, Florida. He relocated with the company to Connecticut, where it operated as American Skandia Life Reassurance and, eventually, Hartford Life Reassurance Corporation. Paul advanced to Assistant Vice President - MIS and Administration, where he was responsible for reinsurance administration and systems.
Paul is responsible for the overall direction of HLR America’s Information Technology initiatives.

Clint J. Thompson, FSA, MAAA, Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, joined HLR America in June of 2011. Clint has over twelve years of experience in the insurance industry. At HLR America, Clint has overall responsibility for the enterprise risk management program and internal capital model.
Prior to joining HLR America, Clint served as Senior Risk Officer for AEGON USA where he was responsible for coordinating market risk and asset-liability management. Previously with AEGON, Clint was a Senior Director of Risk Management responsible for pricing, in-force management, risk reporting, and collateral and liquidity management within the institutional markets business. Over the course of his career, Clint has held a variety of positions in pricing, valuation, financial planning, and financial reporting within both insurance and reinsurance businesses.
Clint holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Mesa State College and a master’s degree in actuarial science from Ball State University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

R. Jeffrey Wright, FSA, MAAA, Senior Vice President - Finance and Risk Management, Mortality Solutions, joined HLR America in February 2009. Jeff brings over 15 years of life insurance experience to the position.
In 2005 Jeff joined Scottish Re where he led the conversion of the legacy ING models to the MoSes platform. Prior to Scottish Re, he served as Director of Pricing from 2003-2004 for ING Re, where he maintained the ING pricing system in ALFA. Earlier in his career he worked for ING on the direct side of the business in various actuarial capacities since 1995.
Jeff holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in economics from Duke University and Master of Actuarial Science degree from Georgia State University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
At HLR America, Jeff is responsible for overseeing the actuarial modeling, valuation, financial reporting and inforce management functions for the Mortality Solutions business unit.
