Joseph Thairu

Joseph Thairu, Assistant Vice President and Assistant Actuary, joined HLR America in January 2003 with six years of experience in the South African Life Reassurance market, where he worked for the South African subsidiary of Hannover Life Re. In South Africa, he was involved with the management of a marketing actuarial team and was charged with developing and managing client relationships, as well as providing actuarial input in the development of life products for various clients. Joseph was particularly involved in the development of the new generation of critical illness products in South Africa.

Joseph graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics from the University of Nairobi and thereafter a post-graduate diploma in Actuarial Science from London’s City University. He is a Fellow of both Faculty of Actuaries (UK) and the Society of Actuaries (US).

Joseph’s responsibilities include providing technical support as required for pricing, valuation and experience monitoring.
